Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore is the famous and busiest airport in the city in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is located in Devanahalli, about 37 km from the city centre. The distance from Bangalore Airport is 37 km on SH 104, which takes 1 hour and 31 minutes. And, the Satellite Ring Road covers the 57.9 km distance to the airport. It covers 4,700 acres of land and has been serving the city's people since 2008. It was named after Kempe Gowda, the city's founder. It is one of the busiest airports in India. The airport has both domestic & international terminals. The airport serves areas like Devanahalli, Yelahanka, Hebbal, Hennur, Thanisandra, and North Bangalore.

Kempegowda International Airport is strategically located in Devanahalli, North Bangalore, about 40 kilometres from the city centre, along National Highway 44 (NH 44), providing smooth road access.

Distance from Major Bangalore Areas

  • MG Road is about 35 km away. It takes around 45 to 60 minutes by car, depending on traffic.
  • Whitefield is around 45 km, expect a travel time of 55 to 70 minutes Outer Ring Road and NH 44.
  • Sarjapur Road is close to 50 km distance; the drive time is around 1 hour and 25 minutes.
  • Varthur Road is around 51 km; the route SH-104 takes about 1 hour and 32 minutes.

Kempegowda International Airport, BKIA, has two main terminals for passengers:

The Bangalore airport has two runways.

  • The first runway is 4,000 meters long.
  • The second runway is also 4,000 meters long and became operational in 2019.
  • These runways help in handling more flights per day.

Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore honours Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda, who was born in 1510 and is often called the founder of Bengaluru. The airport originally named was Bangalore International Airport. In 2009, gave a suggestion to rename the airport, and then they passed another proposal for the Airport change in 2011. It was then accepted in 2013, and after that, it was retitled as Kempegowda Airport in December 2013.

From Whitefield, the airport lies 45 km away via the Outer Ring Road and NH 44. A- Kempegowda International Airport is run by Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), a public-private partnership. Fairfax India holds 54 %, the Airports Authority of India and Government of Karnataka each own 13 %, and Siemens Project Ventures owns 20 %.

A- Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights, with 32 gates and eight aerobridges. Terminal 2, opened in November 2022, serves international traffic over 255,000 m, featuring 28 boarding bridges, expanded lounges and a transit hotel.

A- It is in Devanahalli, roughly 35 km north of central Bangalore city.

A- You can easily get there using taxis, buses (BMTC airport services), private cabs, or self-driving with NH-44.
